Affordable Liv Lurra Hardtail Launches Today

The Liv Lurra hunts all-around trail capability with its hybridized geometry and components (steep seat angle for climbs, slack head angle, and long-travel fork for descents). Its price tag? Modest.

The Liv Lurra aims at agility on various trail conditions and an approachable price point.

A weight-prioritized aluminum frame looks to let riders whip it around and shoulder it for a hike up the especially rough stuff. A steep seat tube angle should make for powerful pedaling on climbs, and a slack 66-degree head tube angle and 130mm fork seek to defang descents and obstacles.

For anyone going the distance, it’s also got top tube mounts for a gear bag. Ludi Scholz, Liv’s Offroad Category Manager, said the bike’s designers hunted a balance between a compliant rig for choppy trails and the playful, adroit qualities of a hardtail.

“The Lurra was designed for riders who prefer the hard-charging speed and simplicity of a hardtail but want some of the plush features a dual-suspension mountain bike offers,” Scholz said. “Riders interested in performance are going to find this bike to be versatile, fun and playful on the trail thanks to its progressive geometry, and its specifications offer tremendous value for the price.”

Liv Lurra: Additional Details

Liv stressed the bike’s weight ahead of its release but stopped short of specifying a number. It did claim the Aluxx SL-grade aluminum (proprietary to Liv’s sister brand, Giant) delivers a “best-in-class” strength-to-weight ratio and touted its material-specific welding techniques.

Elsewhere, oversized headset bearings (1½-inch lower, 1⅛-inch upper) and a tapered steerer tube work to increase steering rigidity. Boost hub spacing (110mm front, 148mm rear) also helps boost lateral wheel stiffness, plus compatibility across components and tire clearance.

The Lurra does clear especially fat tires: 2.6 inches on 27.5 models and 2.5 inches for 29ers. Tubeless-ready wheels, a dropper post, and mounts for two bottle cages round out the bike.

The Lurra comes with specially tuned frame geometry for 27.5-inch wheels in sizes XS and S and 29er options in frame sizes S, M, and L. Choose between the Lurra 1 (SRAM NX/SX Eagle components) and the Lurra 2 (Shimano Deore).

Considering the category, pricing is modest. The Lurra 1 checks in at $1,850 MSRP, and the Lurra 2 comes in at $1,500. They’re both available today on Liv’s website.
